Spanish Christmas Vocabulary (Navidad)
Let’s begin by learning some handy Spanish vocabulary for the Christmas festivity, so you can wish your friends and family a merry Christmas.
¡Feliz Navidad! = Merry Christmas!
Papá Noel = Santa Claus
Example: Papa Noel trae regalos a los niños que se portan bien.
Cartas = Letters
Example: Los niños escriben cartas a Papa Noel.
Regalos = Gifts
Example: Los niños reciben regalos.
Villancicos = Carrols
Example: La gente canta villancicos.
El arbolito de Navidad = Christmas tree.
Example: la gente pone el arbolito de Navidad.
Pesebre = Nativity Set. Also called belén.
Example: La familia pone un pesebre cerca del arbolito de Navidad.
Cenar = to have dinner.
Example: La familia cena en Navidad.
La víspera de Navidad = Christmas Eve
Example: En la vispera de Navidad compartimos en familia.
New Year Holiday (Año Nuevo)
Let’s review now vocabulary related to happy new year in Spanish. ¡Vamos!
¡Feliz Año Nuevo! = Happy New Year!
La víspera de Año Nuevo = New year’s eve
Example: En la víspera de Año Nuevo todos esperan la medianoche abrir la champaña y festejar.
La medianoche = Midnight
Example: La medianoche es el momento más esperado en Año Nuevo.
Botellas de champaña = Champagne bottles.
Example: La gente abre las botellas de champaña a medianoche.
Bailar = to dance.
Example: En la noche de Año Nuevo, todos bailan música alegre.
