A South American dance originated in Rio de la Plata, an area shared by Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay). Born in the lower-class neighborhoods, it combines European, African, and Criollo influences, which makes its rhythm unique. Its lyrics are about love, broken hearts, fleetingness of life, and solitude (That’s why its beat is considered melancholic).
