Gracias

The easiest and most universal way to say “thank you” in Spanish is gracias.

Example:
— Acá tienes lo que me pediste. (Here is what you asked for.)
— ¡Gracias! (Thanks!)

More Ways to Express Gratitude

Want to show even more enthusiasm? Here are some variations that give your “thank you” an extra touch:

  • Mil gracias – Literally, “a thousand thanks.”
  • Muchas gracias – The classic “thank you very much.”
  • Muchísimas gracias – Similar to muchas gracias, but with even more energy!
  • Gracias desde el fondo de mi corazón – For truly heartfelt gratitude, meaning “thanks from the bottom of my heart.”

Say Thanks for Specific Things

To thank someone for something specific, use gracias por + the thing or action you’re grateful for:

Examples:

  • Gracias por el regalo – Thanks for the gift (object.)
  • Gracias por venir a la fiesta – Thanks for coming to the party (action.)

This simple structure lets you be more precise with your gratitude!

How to Say “You’re Welcome” in Spanish

When someone says gracias, the usual responses are:

  • De nada – Equivalent to “it’s nothing.”
  • No hay de qué – Roughly “nothing to thank for.”

Just remember, bienvenido/a means “welcome” as in “welcome to my home” and isn’t used as a response to gracias.

Now that you’ve got these phrases down, try them out with your friends and impress them with your growing Spanish skills!

Happy Thanksgiving, and mil gracias for listening!
